JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of golf courses, buildings and grounds.

Works under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Golf Course Manager.

May supervise Worker I's, community service workers or seasonal employees as required and assigned.

Assists in the training and/or supervision of lower level employees or community service workers.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City

Seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of golf courses.

Must be able to work with the golfing public in a courteous and responsible manner.

Performs maintenance on entire golf course irrigation system including pumps, operation of Toro Osmac computer control system, Toro Site Pro computer program, and control through radio commands.

Repairs and operates irrigation field control satellites.

Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.

Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises.

Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.

Ability to design and install new and renovate old irrigation systems.

Keeps records of work completed.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.

Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers.

Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.

Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs, prepares facilities for park and recreation program use.

Assists in the construction of new parks facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.

Mows turf and maintains park and open space areas such as golf courses.

Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of park drinking fountains and rest rooms.

Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.

Performs custodial work such as required and assigned, including: change light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; sweep floors; vacuum carpets; mop; shampoo and steam clean carpets; dump garbage and reline cans with liners; clean and sanitize rest rooms and replenish supplies; sweep; empty ash cans; clean spills; clean drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.; dust furniture; wash windows, walls, metal and woodwork.

Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

This position requires a baseline audiometric examination.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and two years experience in repair and maintenance work, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

New Mexico herbicide applicator's license preferred, but not required.

Valid New Mexico driver's license with CDL endorsement, with acceptable driving record for past three years or state of current residency.

Ability to obtain CDL within one year after employment begins

Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds construction, irrigation and turf maintenance.

Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.

Computer program knowledge.

Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment in a proper and safe manner.

Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

Ability to use equipment and tools listed properly and safely.

Extensive background checks required.

This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Front-end loader/tractor, backhoe, dump truck, skid loader, Sand Pro, utility vehicles, Topdresser, Cushman Sprayer, fertilizer hopper, soil sifter, seeder, sod cutter, string trimmers, edgers, electric motors, pumps, aerifier, mowers, fork lift, chain saw, weed trimmers, sprinklers, irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand and power tools for carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work; janitorial equipment including steam cleaner, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuums, mops, brooms, and dusting equipment, motor vehicle, Computer, telephone, mobile radio and calculator.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and extreme hot and cold weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
