WORK LOCATION: MOC

TYPE OF POSITION: Regular/Full-Time

PAY GRADE: U-4/620 Non-Exempt

SALARY RANGE: $42.7851 / Hourly

DAYS WORKED: Tuesday thru Friday

HOURS WORKED: 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs a variety of routine skilled and technical work in the maintenance, repair and installation of electric meters and associated equipment. Works under the general supervision of the Working Meter Foreman.

Promotes and follows safe practices, procedures, and safety rules and participates in scheduled Safety Meetings.

Demonstrates honesty, integrity, confidentiality, dependability, and flexibility along with initiative and motivation to organize and complete tasks and meet deadlines.

Performs duties and assignments and conducts self in such a manner as to reflect credit on the Utility.

Instructs and assists in training of apprentice metermen and helpers in the Electric Meter Shop.

Installs and maintains metering jobs, including meter testing, new meter installation, and meter programming both in and out of the shop; to include testing of substation class meters.

Complies with union contract and City policies and procedures relating to the operation of the Meter Shop.

Completes forms and paperwork necessary for proper record keeping and customer service billing needs.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Attendance is an essential function of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required; completion of a four year meterman apprenticeship course combined with two years experience as a journeyman meterman preferred.

Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.

Extensive background checks required.

Thorough knowledge and skill in use of methods, materials, and tools used in electrical metering, construction and maintenance work.

Knowledge of the Turtle, AMI and URT (AMR) systems.

Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; skill in the application of first aid methods including CPR.

Ability to effectively instruct subordinates in the proper methods, procedures and safety precautions of metering work; ability to supervise the work of apprentices and helpers and direct jobs safely, efficiently and economically.

Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing.

Ability to operate a personal computer and understand or learn the HTE system. Functional knowledge of Windows and other computer software as necessary.

Further training or education in the metering trade preferred; must be willing attend schooling and maintain a current job knowledge of changing technology in the electric meter trade or industry; must be prepared to teach or instruct others in these changes.

REQUIRED TESTS:

A skills/mathematical test as part of the overall scoring process at the interview stage; a post-offer, job related physical and drug screen is required.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Skill in the use of Watthour meter testing equipment, including field testing equipment, multimeters and recording meter equipment and software. Other equipment will be utilized as technology dictates.

Also must possess skill in using calculator, phone, radio, personal computer, and all applicable software noted previous, motor vehicle and various hand tools.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and handles potential transformers weighing up to 53 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
