PAY CLASS: C HIRING RANGE: $11.1747-$13.6879 per hour

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works full-time under the supervision of the Farmington Indian Center (FIC)- Cook, and the FIC Director unless otherwise instructed.

Ability to manage the FIC kitchen in the absence of the FIC Cook.

Assists with the preparations of meals in accordance with the State of New Mexico Environmental policies and procedures, as well as City of Farmington policies and procedures.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Assist with food orders.

Cleaning and sanitizing areas, washing dishes, mopping and sweeping, cleaning refrigerators, freezers, stove, ovens bins, cupboards, and other kitchen equipment.

Assists with disposal of trash and food wastes; recycles paper and metal waste daily.

Participates in emergency drills, environmental safety activities, documents safety protocol.

Assists with events and programs and needed throughout Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA).

Wears close-toed shoes and appropriate clothing.

Works a varied schedule which may include weekends, evenings, depending on the events planned.
Operates cash register and prepares deposits with peripheral electronic processing equipment.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works other related FIC activities within the Farmington Indian Center as needed.

May serve on various employee committees, as required by and assigned.

Other duties may be assigned, such as after hours work or work on weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

A pre-employment physical and or drug/alcohol test is required for this position.

High School Diploma or Equivalent of GED.

Ability to speak and understand the Navajo Language preferred, but not required.

CPR and First Aid certification preferred, must obtain within 1st year of employment.

Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Operates various kitchen appliances, utensils, freezer, and other food service equipment, washing machine and dryer, microwave oven, broom, mop, motor vehicle, telephone, computer, fax machine. copier and calculator.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Assistant Cook shall read and understand the general food service provisions, procedures, and requirements as set for by New Mexico Environment Department for Food Service and Processor Regulations.

Knowledge of Navajo cultural food preparation is required.
