JOB POSITION #60 DIGGER OPERATOR

NUMBER OF VACANCIES:  1

DEPARTMENT:  Electric Utility / T & D

WORK LOCATION:  MOC

SALARY:  $36.65 / Hour

PAY GRADE:  U-5 Non-Exempt

TYPE OF POSITION:  Regular/Full-Time

DAYS WORKED:  Monday Friday

HOURS WORKED:  6:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Performs a variety of skilled construction and maintenance work in carrying out work orders or instructions from the Line Superintendents or Electric Line Working Foremen.

Works under the supervision of Electric Line Working Foreman.

Operates hole digging equipment, tensioners, backhoe, trencher, and pullers.

Operates heavy truck equipped with power driven winches.

Drives truck and trailer with heavy equipment to and from job sites.

Works through interpretation of blueprints, sketches, work orders, One Call tickets, and verbal instructions.

Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment (grease, oil, fuel, and adjust).

Works in a safe manner and helps promote safety with fellow workers.

May be required to perform duties of lower classifications, Class "A" Helper, including use of shovel, rake and hoe.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes:  pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Extensive background checks required.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of three (3) year experience with two (2) years working near high voltage lines and other underground utilities (gas, water, cable, phone, etc.).

Must be familiar with and worked with the New Mexico One Call System, or equivalent if from another state. 

Ability to operate hole digging equipment, tensioners, backhoe, trencher, pullers and heavy trucks equipped with power driven winches.

Ability to drive trucks in excess of 26,000 GVW.

Valid New Mexico driver's license required; Commercial driver's license must be obtained prior to entry into employment.

Ability to work with others and follow directions from supervisor.

Must have a telephone at residence and be willing to work after hours as needed; must be able to be at the Municipal Operations Center within thirty minutes after receiving a call.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

Crane use certifications highly desirable.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Phone, mobile radio, motor vehicles, hole digging equipment, tensioners, backhoe, trencher, pullers and line trucks, and various hand tools including shovel, rake, and hoe.
