JOB POSITION #180:  MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN

JOB DUTIES

Overview:  This position will provide project based marketing, public information, graphic and advertising support to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department under the supervision of the Marketing & Public Relations Specialist.

Interfaces directly and frequently with PRCA staff, community organizations, vendors, media, and the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Assist with conceptualizing, designing, and producing department multimedia promotional materials to include videos, social media content, print materials, etc. for specific programs, events, or initiatives.

Uses digital camera and/or video equipment to shoot and maintain a photographic and video record of events for future promotional materials.

Uses video and design software to assist with the production of promotional pieces for specific PRCA programs, events, and/or initiatives to a culturally and economically diverse audience.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Attendance is an essential function of this position.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes:  pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Valid New Mexico drivers license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.

Enrollment in a college program focusing on communications, digital arts, video production, marketing, or advertising is required.

Knowledge of emerging communications technologies. 

Knowledge of personal computers and software; knowledge of inventory and financial software; specific knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premier Pro or similar graphic design and video production software is desirable.

Ability to work varied hours including evenings and weekends.

Ability to represent institutional interests to professional affiliate organizations in a professional and compelling manner.

Ability to effectively meet, establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, supervisors, other City personnel, vendors and the public.

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions.

Ability to meet deadlines and in some instances work under stress and handle stressful situations.

Direct experience in conceptualizing, designing, and producing multimedia promotional materials to include print material, videos, social media content, etc.

Extensive background checks required.

This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program. 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Personal computer including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro, inventory and financial software; motor vehicle, calculator, copy machine, telephone, fax machine, cash register, digital SLR camera, digital video camera.
