JOB POSITION #36:  Journeyman Instrumentation, Control, and Electrical (ICE) Technician

NUMBER OF VACANCIES:  1

DEPARTMENT:  Electric Utility / Generation

PAY GRADE:  U-4 / 620   Non-Exempt

SALARY RANGE:  $39.9260 / Hour

TYPE OF POSITION:  Regular, Full-Time

WORK LOCATION:  Animas Power Plant 

DAYS WORKED:  Varied

HOURS WORKED:  6:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works under the supervision of the Generation Superintendent and is directed by the Maintenance Working Foreman.

Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation of generation units at the power plants.

Installs, repairs, calibrates, and programs a variety of instrumentation and control equipment, including but not limited to: Foxboro I/A DCS hardware and software, ABB hardware and software, programmable logic controllers, CEMS, multiloop electronic and transmitters, signal conditioners, and final drive units.

Installs and repairs high voltage (up to and including 13.8 kv) electrical equipment associated with electric generation, including but not limited to: Generators, excitation systems (both rotating and static), breakers, batteries, and chargers.

Performs a number of routine preventative maintenance tasks including but not limited to: light replacement, filter replacement, generator brush replacement, resistance testing, cleaning, and other duties associated with electrical and instrumentation maintenance.

Prepares and revises electrical drawings on equipment modifications, documents and maintains calibration records, and provides written reports on equipment repairs and malfunctions.

Performs all duties in compliance with safety and security rules, standard operating procedures, and labor agreement terms.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program.  This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Extensive background checks required.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and completion of an accredited electrical and instrumentation apprenticeship program, or a college accredited electrical and instrumentation degree program (2 year minimum), or other equivalent related experience may be considered.

Five (5) years of experience relating to electrical and instrumentation maintenance in a generation plant, process plant environment, or related Electric Utility experience is required.

Must have a telephone and be willing to be on 24-hour call; must be able to be at the Power Plant within thirty minutes after receiving a call.

Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally, in writing and electronically.  Must be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Must be able to direct the activities of Production Specialist/Apprentices who may be assisting with maintenance activities.  Requires the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 to 55 pounds and must request additional assistance or use mechanical assistance when attempting to lift and/or move items weighing greater than 55 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

The employee is required to use hand and power tools, electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, other assorted equipment, and a motor vehicle.

The employee works on a variety of equipment including, but not limited to: Steam turbine- generators, and associated auxiliary equipment (boilers, pumps, compressors, valves, etc.), combustion turbine-generators and associated auxiliary equipment, and hydroelectric turbine-generators, and associated equipment.
