JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Requires 24 hour on call availability to include weekend, nights, holidays, during and after adverse weather conditions and emergency situations as required. Must be at Parks Operations 30 minutes after receiving call.

Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds and parks.

Preforms all duties of a maintenance worker I II III IV as written.

Works under the supervision of the Parks Superintendent, Assistant Parks Superintendent, and Parks Foreman.

May supervise Worker I and Worker II positions; community service workers or seasonal employees as required and assigned.

Assists in the training and/or supervision of lower-level employees or community service workers.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Performs maintenance of mechanical units including water filtration, water feature pumps, water heating, air heating and cooling, ventilation and dehumidification systems.

Responsible for the upkeep of the facilities' equipment including troubleshooting, evaluating, repairing or recommending maintenance repairs.

Maintains public announcement systems and score boards including bulbs, switches and panels for all ball fields. Timers for shelter and park lighting.

Makes emergency repairs of equipment.

Performs routine repairs such as replacing tiles, painting, repairing doors, door hinges, lock, door hardware, handles, glass, carpeting and roofing.

Performs interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other skilled and semi-skilled trades work.

Performs installation, and safety inspections of playgrounds and makes repairs as needed.

The ability to record completed work on the web-based program for playgrounds.

The ability to obtain a CPSI certification.

Plant trees and shrubs as assigned.

Snow removal duties as assigned.

Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.

Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.

Keeps records of work completed.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of park drinking fountains and rest rooms.

Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

Assist in the setting up and tearing down equipment for various parks and recreation programs, prepares park facilities for special events and recreation programs.

Basic computer skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

This position requires a baseline audiometric examination.

Extensive background checks required.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and two years' experience in repair and maintenance work, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Valid New Mexico driver's license with CDL endorsement, with acceptable driving record for past three years, or ability to obtain CDL within sixty days of entry into position.

Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.

Working knowledge of plumbing and electrical repairs.

Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs, working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.

Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.

Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Operates backhoe, tractors, mowing equipment, hand mowers, jack hammers, welders, dump trucks, pickup truck, boom truck, arial lift, forklift, wood chipper, airifier, chain saw, edgers, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand and power tools for carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing tools; swimming pool equipment including chlorination system, pumps, boiler, valves, filtration devices, gauges, etc; janitorial equipment including floor buffers, steam cleaner, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuums, mops, brooms, and dusting equipment, telephone and mobile radio.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance and occasionally lift and/or move more than 80 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places, traffic, and is frequently exposed to wet and extreme hot and cold weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
