JOB POSITION #121: SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 22

DEPARTMENT: Police Department

WORK LOCATION: Varied

HIRING RANGE: $12.00 per hour

DAYS WORKED: Monday - Friday

HOURS WORKED: 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

TYPE OF POSITION: Seasonal, Part-Time

JOB DUTIES

This position starts approximately August 10, 2023 and ends approximately May 24, 2024.

POSITION IS TO REMAIN OPEN THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR.

SKILLS & SELECTION TESTING: In-person interview.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assists children in crossing roadways at designated school crosswalks.

Must be continually vigilant of hazards both vehicular and criminal in the area of their crosswalks and must be able to identify vehicles and drivers that violate crosswalk laws or criminal statutes involving children.

Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Hours for this position include mornings and afternoons in all weather conditions.

  • Average hours worked per day is 1-2 in the morning and 1-2 in the afternoon.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Must be able to avail themselves to testify in court when they are the reporting party in a violation.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City Of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program which includes: pre-employment testing, random testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Extensive background checks required.

Must have reliable transportation.

Must have a telephone at residence and be able to be at specified location within 30 minutes after receiving call.

Substitute crossing guards must live within a reasonable distance in order to provide service when called upon.

Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, lift and run. Must be able to work on uneven surfaces.

Must be able to work in all weather conditions including rain, snow, wind and extreme heat and cold conditions.
