JOB POSITION #55: Traffic Sign Technician

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1

DEPARTMENT: Public Works/Traffic

WORK LOCATION: MOC

HIRING RANGE: $15.5264 - $24.1748/hourly

DAYS WORKED: Monday - Friday

HOURS WORKED: 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

TYPE OF POSITION: Regular, Full-Time

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in fabricating and maintaining traffic signs for the division.

Maintains and updates traffic control inventory (ArcGIS) system both in writing and using a personal computer.

Works under the direct supervision of the Traffic Foreman.

No supervision is exercised in this position.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Makes, installs, maintains and repairs traffic signs including layout, assembly and disassembly, pole (post) setting and straightening and graffiti removal.

Applies pavement markings. Prepares materials and surfaces; paints and/or applies marking tape and/or hot plastic material.

Provides traffic control for self and others, i.e., setting out and picking up temporary signs and barricades for construction and special events.

Uses computers for sign design and fabrication.

May perform routine maintenance of tools and equipment as necessary.

Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Is generally alert to conditions and events occurring on city streets and rights-of-way and can respond accordingly.

While performing job duties, takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.

Deploy dynamic message boards for projects or any misc. events, install traffic data collection devices as needed, and assist in long line striping layout throughout the City.

Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials and equipment.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow up testing.

Extensive background checks required.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.

Basic knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices desired.

Working knowledge of computers and applicable software packages used in sign making helpful.

Experience maintaining tools and equipment preferred.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Miscellaneous hand and power tools, applicators, long handled tools, jackhammer, post pounder, operates utility and sign trucks, sign making machines, painting equipment, thermoplastic machines, telephone, mobile radio, and personal computer.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
