JOB DUTIES

INTERVIEWING FOR THIS SEASONAL POSITION WILL BEGIN MID-APRIL
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Works under the supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor and the Recreation Manager.
Creates, organizes, and instructs assigned classes for a Summer Recreation Program for children and youth. Classes may include crafts, sports and physical activities, and/or special interest activities.
Assists in facilitating special events throughout the Summer Recreation Program which may include, but not limited to, a 4th of July picnic, bowling party, and a summer carnival.
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other staff, parents, and all members of the general public.
Provides a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality program for the children and youth.
Follows all rules and procedures described and ensures that all children and youth are aware of the rules.
Takes responsibility for the quality and quantity of the supplies, equipment and materials.
Reports all accidents to the Recreation Program Supervisor and/or Recreation Program Assistant, and completely fills out proper accident/incident forms.
Must be able to take charge and direct children in case of an emergency.
May help with the supervision of part‑time volunteers and/or other staff.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.
Knowledge of lesson plans and children's programming, preferred.
Ability to work well with children.
Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED, preferred.
Ability to assist in developing, coordinating, and directing varied activities for children and youth.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel, and the public.
Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.
Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Includes, but is not limited to: telephone; various sports equipment; kitchen utensils and equipment; video/audio equipment, craft supplies and other equipment involved in children's activities.
