JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The Technical Director (TD) has the daily responsibility for the technical operations of the Civic Center Theatre, Lion's Outdoor

Amphitheatre and the Totah Theatre, including lighting, sound, set design, construction, and coordinating necessary maintenance.

Answers to and works closely with the Civic Center supervisor to oversee the completion of projects and ensure that all technical needs are met.

Ability to read and understand technical riders from acts and events scheduled for the Civic Center and provide accurate assessment of costs to fulfill.

Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows. Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.

Advises production managers, lighting and sound designers, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.

Orients facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the technical facilities by the resident company and others engaged by or renting the facility.

Ability to help craft capitol expense yearly budget for technical equipment.

Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets, maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.

Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management.

Attends Technical Week rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting the show.

Enforces safety requirements for members of all crews.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the city's drug and alcohol free workplace program. This includes pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow up testing.

Must possess a strong work ethic and flexibility in varying work situations.

Maintains a high level of professionalism with with staff, clients and members of the public.

Active listening and communication skills.

Basic understanding of all technical processes involved in presenting theatre or a live performance.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Theatre equipment including lighting, test and sound engineering equipment such as microphones and related items.

Various hand and power tools including hammers, power saws, drills, motor vehicle, telephone, computer, mobile radio and stage communication systems.

Must possess at thorough understanding of the operation and control of sound consoles, light boards, lighting instruments and other production equipment.

Employee will frequently operate state of the art equipment such as digital sound boards and computer controlled light boards as well as video projection equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is required to perform shift work in a rotation of days, nights including weekends and holidays.

The employee must be able to climb to heights of 30' or higher in order to hang lighting and sound equipment.

They must also have the ability to climb ladders, trusses and rock formations.

The employee may frequently lift and /or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus and differentiate between colors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed inside and outside of the Civic Center, Totah theatre and the outdoor amphitheater in all types of weather.

Ability to work in physically exerting conditions, loud environments and Inclement weather in an outdoor setting.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.

Must have or be able to obtain certification in CPR and basic first aid.

Must be high school graduate with a minimum of an Associate's Degree in technical theatre and at least 10 years' experience in live stage production.

Must have at least 8 years' experience in outdoor theatre.
