JOB POSITION #1: CARPENTER / CONCRETE WORKER

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1

DEPT: General Services/Building & Maint.

WORK LOCATION: MOC

HIRING RANGE: $15.75 - $24.53/hour

PAY CLASS: "G" Reg/Full Time

HOURS WORKED: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

DAYS WORKED: Monday - Friday

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works under the general direction of the Building and Maintenance Superintendent.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Works as finish carpenter by doing trim work and construction of office furnishings such as desks, cabinets, and shelves.

Works as frame carpenter by doing such duties as demolition, constructing new walls, installing sheetrock, taping, texturing, plastering, installing floor tiles and countertops, painting, and pouring concrete.

Reads blueprints and completes projects from blueprints; lays out carpenter jobs from blueprint to completion.

Communicates courteously and efficiently with other City employees to accurately determine and develop their projects.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Extensive background checks required.

A pre-employment physical, baseline audiometric examination and drug/alcohol test is required for this position.

Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent preferred.

Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for past three years.

Experience as both frame and finish carpenter sufficient to perform duties.

Knowledge of basic shop mathematics sufficient to calculate metric conversions and to calculate materials needed for jobs.

Must be skilled in operation of shop tools such as table saw, radial arm saw, power planer, power shaper, router, wood lathe, airless paint sprayer, large belt sander, band saw, hand saw, and electric drill.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.

Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Motor vehicles and equipment, including pickup truck, utility truck, saws, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools including table saw, radial arm saw, power planer, power shaper, router, wood lathe, airless paint sprayer, large belt sander, band saw, hand saw, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone.
